ANALYSIS
Skellerup Rubber Services’ IT solutions were provided by one of New Zealand’s largest tech companies for a number of years. However, the services delivered were not meeting the needs of the team.
Following a recommendation from another division of the company, Skellerup Rubber Services asked BTG to provide a solution.
While better service was needed, business unit manager Mark Ho explained there was some trepidation about the potential disruption that switching providers could create.
The brief called for BTG to replace the division’s entire IT system including communications and cloud hosting along with responsive support when needed.
Not only that, during the transition, Skellerup Rubber Services put in another request, asking BTG to connect its headquarters with a manufacturing plant it used in Vietnam.
DELIVERY
“There was a very robust process in place to help us through the transition,” Mark says.
From the planning of the process, understanding the business, transparency of costs and ensuring stakeholders were kept informed, Mark says the team was very happy with BTG’s approach.
“The team was very clear and the timeline was smooth. Then at the pointy end of actually doing it, BTG was very organised and made it seamless for us. They did a great job with our project.”
About three-quarters of the way through the transition, Mark says the Vietnam manufacturing plant was thrown into the mix.
“We needed visibility in the plant that we have a relationship with. BTG helped us with logging into the system there, which sounds simple but there were some practical problems with hardware and security challenges.”
Mark says BTG got into the thick of things along with Skellerup engineers to deliver the best solution at the same time as transitioning from the former IT provider.
A real test and bonus for the Skellerup Rubber Services team is the high level of responsive support.
Mark says being able to pick up the phone and have it answered is a significant change to the level of service the team experienced with its former provider. This also means any onboarding of new staff, such as setting up new email accounts, happens without any delay.
