Analysis
This Health Professional provides medical care and support services to patients and their families. It has a team of medical staff and other specialists going on the road to visit patients with additional in-patient care.
When the CFO joined the Health Provider in the first half of 2021, he quickly realised its existing IT supplier was spending most of its time on attempting to fix issues.
As well as poor-quality phone calls, the unreliable server continually dropped its users, which caused real frustration during increased levels of remote working due to Covid-19 conditions.
The CFO sought the help of BTG.
“Now when we have our weekly IT meeting, we’re focusing on what we’re going to improve rather than fixing what’s not working,” he explains.
The appeal of having “boots on the ground” with BTG’s Bay of Plenty-based team was also important to ensure are well supported.
Delivery
Ted Ebbing, BTG’s business development manager, says it was clear their needs were not being met, and they were not receiving value. While quick fixes to the issues were required, it was vital they were included as part of a broader plan to future proof the system, enable reliable ease of use for the entire team and provide a platform of continual improvement.
The CFO says staff frustration and complaints dropped off almost immediately once BTG began rolling out its solution, which was within a month of the initial analysis being completed in late 2021.
This included putting the right equipment in place to improve WiFi connectivity. That fixed call quality and reliability issues with the phone system, replacing ageing servers with its own New Zealand-domiciled cloud-based solution, implementing Microsoft 365 and upgrading security systems and processes. In addition, BTG provide high value fibre to guarantee connection to its own ISP, providing more surety of connectivity to the now cloud hosted servers.
At the same time, the Health Provider’s team is gradually being educated on how to best use the system.
The CFO adds that while budget is always a constraining factor for any organisation, it’s particularly true for this health provider.
“After staff, our IT costs are our highest expense, so it’s vital that everything works as it should. It didn’t before. Now it does.”
