Smart Marine is a proudly family owned and operated recreational boating, fishing gear, dive gear, camping, RV equipment & BBQ store since 1979.
“So, we got units off AliExpress. They weren’t bad, but we found that accessing data was challenging for managers.”
The video surveillance system they had in place had a limit as to the number of devices you could run at any one time, and accessing it via iOS was buggy at best.
“It turned out that the NVR with our old system was capped at 24 cameras - so we were constrained with regard to scalability.”
Tim from BTG suggested Luke try NX Witness at Smart Marine’s Glenfield branch. Then, slowly but surely, its ease of use and delivery of super high-resolution video won the Smart Marine team over.
“We’d had issues with the previous NVR pausing and glitching. We have no such issues with NX Witness. Plus you can log in on your phone; rather than running out to the back room.”
“It was a lot easier to use, so we decided to switch over to all of our branches.”
NX Witness runs on BTG’s cloud platform. Smart Marine has a BTG WAN, so it was merely a matter of a couple of clicks to migrate over. The five branches now have ninety cameras running simultaneously.
“It’s funny, with the old system we’d tried to save a bit of money, but we ended up not saving much at all, and as I said, NX Witness just works.”
And, have they had to use the footage at all?
“Oh yeah, BTG has sent a bit of footage to the police at our request, and because it’s great quality and super sharp, unlike some of the thieves, we’ve been able to retrieve quite a bit of gear.”

“NX Witness is a cloud-based IP video management system (IPVMS) that once you see it in action, you’ll be sold. There’s a one-off cost for installation, and after that, you’re only paying for storage. It makes sense in the long run.”
