Challenge – Fear of migration.
It’s not uncommon for large organisations to have a fear of migration. If not planned well, it can be disruptive.
“We had to maintain continuity – being a 24/7 operation. Our data and communication systems are directly connected to our residents’ well being. Our fear of migration was justified, so we had to know it was going to run smoothly.”
The numbers broke down like this:
- 200 computers users,
- 200 telephone handsets,
- 8 servers migrated,
- 18 WAN sites with a mix of UFB Fibre, ADSL and VDSL up and down the country,
- Managed firewall,
- 99 wifi access points deployed nationally.
Solution – Incremental changes. To make a big difference.
From the moment UCG decided to partner with BTG, we had about six weeks to prep for the cutover – which would take place a week before Xmas, and be completed before the New Year.
“BTG’s outstanding difference is a ‘can do’ attitude – and probably the size of their organisation – the fact they have offices outside of Auckland. They’re able to provide timely solutions going forward in major cities.”
All the VOIP and data had to change. We worked with UCG’s CEO, GM and many of their staff to preemptively prepare for the changeover.
“The initial solution wasn’t much different from what we had but going forward we will make incremental changes that will result in big changes.”
Implementation – Zero down time. Delivered in no time.
“We wanted to transition as soon as possible. We couldn’t afford any glitches over the holiday period. Having been involved in the pre migration with Steve and the amount of work that was going into it in the background – I was amazed at how smoothly it went.”
We had the entire system migrated with everything done within two and a half hours. Best of all, we received not one complaint. Each branch only had a 15 minute outage window.
“The team there are very creative. Passionate about problem solving. The implementation went very smoothly – to sum it up. Very well indeed. We had zero down time. Apart from the odd five minutes.”
Results – A big, hand-picked team working as one.
Things have been ticking along very nicely ever since, and we delivered under budget, and the migration itself was done under time, which is quite a feat considering we only had a three hour window.
“It’s been great. There was a lot of work involved setting everything up. It was a big team and they delivered. Even Steve, the CEO rolled up his sleeves. Since then, they’ve been tidying up the systems and reconfiguring things. I didn’t think we’d be anywhere near where are – everything’s tidy.”
and what does Steve, CEO of BTG reckon?
“This wouldn’t have been possible without such a capable team. No one person could have delivered this result. The group of experts we selected were multi-disciplined and multi-geographical – and they managed to operate as if they were a single entity. I can’t tell you how proud I am to work with a crew like this.”
